TASKFORCE ON ILLEGAL MAIZE GRAIN, MEALIE-MEAL EXPORT CONSTITUTED

Government has constituted a task force for Lusaka Province to help curb the illegal export of maize grain and Mealie- Meal to neighbouring Countries.

The team consists of officers from the Zambia Army, Zambia National Service -ZNS, Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- and the Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC.

Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa says the formation of the Lusaka Province Food Security task force has been necessitated by recent interception by ZRA of 23 trucks loaded with Mealie Meal.

Mr. Kangwa says the development has acted as an eye opener for Government to safeguard grains for national security for Lusaka which is a centre of all reserves in the country.

He was speaking in Lusaka at media briefing held at the provincial office.

Lusaka province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga who is the task force chairperson said the establishment of the task force has come at the right time adding that there is need to secure the country’s food.

And Agriculture Permanent Secretary Songowayo Zyambo explained that the task force will not stop movement of grain and mealie-meal within the country.
