Leadership Conferences Foundation Hosts Mining For Change

The Leadership Conferences Foundation hosted its inaugural stakeholders engagement and policy conference on mining on the 22nd June 2022 at the Pamodzi hotel in Lusaka.

Graced by the Minister of Mines Hon. Paul Kabuswe the event aimed at creating a platform for sector players, received participation from profiled academicians, industry players and technocrats who highlighted critical issues in mining and mineral exploration.

Among the participants were Jewel of Africa Managing Director Dr. Rajnish Sharma, former government leaders and other political party leaders.

Zambia remains one of the largest producers and exporters of copper in Africa with mining as a major economic sector in the country, contributing significantly to Zambian government revenues, mainly through mining royalties and value-added tax. The debate brought forth topics on innovation, infrastructure development, forward linkages and how the country can leverage opportunities in transitioning economies, with regards to energy and the mining sectors relevance in contributing to the electric motor vehicle industry,telecommunications and renewable energy.

Over the past years the sector has suffered setbacks due to various challenges arising from leadership and management issues.

The conference brought to light many issues as the panelists discussed to make submissions to the relevant ministry for recommendation as they develop policies the will ensure an enhanced performance of the sector.
