Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Chief Executive Officer Mr Perry Mapani last week visited Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles Joint Venture Limited in Kabwe to appreciate the operational background of the company and to assess its current status.
During the tour of the facility, Mr Mapani said he decided to visit the company to familiarize himself with the textile factory and to appreciate the efforts that are being done to revamp it by the Government.
“It is my first time to visit this historical company that once contributed greatly to the people of Central Province and Zambia in general, and my coming here is to appreciate the past and current status of the company,” he said.
Zambia -China Mulungushi Textiles joint venture Ltd General Manager Col Canisius Chola said the company had the potential to revive the economic fortunes of Kabwe and Central Province once it was successfully revamped.
Col Chola also said that a lot of effort had been put in to find solutions that would restore the operations of Kabwe and Central province’s largest employer.
Zambia -China Mulungushi textiles joint venture Ltd ceased major operations on January 1, 2007, leaving over 1,000 people out of employment within Kabwe and other districts where the company had expanded its operations.
